Microteaching II

And that's a wrap...

Hi there, ladies. Thanks for sharing this incredible learning experience with me- you are all so talented and will make amazing educators in the future. I hope that I didn't bore you too much during my English lessons, and thanks again for being part of this essential teaching foundation.

For the final time, it's all yours!

  1. Dominque - i absolutely loved your lesson! Creating a short story was super fun and allowed students to be creative! Having us guess what the elements were was a great way to get us to really think about the different elements of a story and which parts are essential. I also enjoyed the youtube video you provided! I feel like it would be a great source in middle and fun catchy way for students to review the elements possibly for a test!

  2. Dominique - I agree with Amanda on all points! Your lesson was very fun - I like that it gave students different ways to be involved in the group work. I also agree that it was good to get us to guess the parts of a short story first - it led us to a discussion about how all the terms you presented us with are related even if they are not the official parts of a short story - if you had time, it would be good to have the class do the activity again after being presented with the official terms - or I guess you would probably have students then individually write short stories, your lesson was a great led-in to that. The video was great - even though I think students would think it's silly, they will remember it! Great work! Happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year!

  3. Hi Dominique!

Yes, I already told you I'm stealing this lesson idea some way. I love the way you had students guess the elements first, write their own story and pull out the elements they used. I think these techniques are really great to get all the students involved. I also agree with Jenna I think a fun activity would be to have the students write their own stories after you discuss the correct elements. another strength I think was the time you allowed us to debate what we thought was write among ourselves and try to figure it out. Great job and it was super engaging!!!!

  4. This lesson was awesome! I think it will appeal to all different age groups (including fellow teaching students haha). I also think you effectively met your objectives. I had no idea what the components of a short story were but now thanks to that song...I know! The lesson touched on many different facets of learning and creativity- art, writing, group work, presenting...I loved it! You also seemed a lot more comfortable this time, as we all were, and that made it even better!

  5. Hey Dominique! What a great lesson!! I feel like I really learned what the components of a short story were. It was also really great that we were able to create a story using the parts we thought and then showing the video at the end, which by the way was stuck in my head for the rest of the day! I think that this lesson was next to perfect and that you should be really proud of yourself! Good job! -Emily
